I Dream in Flowers Dress

$150.00

Sometimes — while oftentimes actually if we’re being honest — we design a piece for the purely selfish reason that we want to wear it ourselves ;) The I Dream in Flowers dress was definitely one of these pieces — created using a masterful floral oil painting from the early 1600’s by artist Jan Brueghel, and trimmed with an ink drawing of bumblebees found in a Victorian insect encyclopedia. It has the look and feel of a timeless, vintage piece that will never go out of style. You can also wear this piece two ways, with the dragonfly on the front of the bodice, or the back — depending on your mood. Please note: The nature of our soft bamboo/wood viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend wearing a full or half-slip with this style.

100% bamboo/wood viscose. Machine wash gentle or handwash, hang to dry.

Measurements for S/M: 53in long, 20in wide underarm to underarm. L/XL: 55in long, 22in wide underarm to underarm.

“I must have flowers, always, and always.”

- Claude Monet

“The flower doesn’t dream of the bee.

It blossoms, and the bee comes.”

- M. Nepo

“I dream my painting and I paint my dream.”

- Vincent Van Gogh

The Poem

In the dark, she dreams flowers.
Larkspur and lilac, white hawthorn
blooming moonlight on the bed. In the cotton
and hay her breath shivers with perfume and pollen,
a feast for bees. Their soft velvet hum like a blanket.
She dreams flowers, white lilies
line the path to her heart like lanterns. Her chest is tangled
and tender, the prickles of regret
the sweet hope of alyssum. Her arms
are strong as branches, fists
a flourish of blossoms she will not let go.

How to Wear

With its stunning painted flowers and flowy cut, this dress is truly a bohemian dream. We’ll be wearing it though fall layered up with tights, a cardigan, and a leather belt, and through summer with sandals and a straw bag. We love it paired with a cropped blazer and a wedge heel too for a romantic, polished look. And don’t forget events — this dress is delightful to dance in! Add a pair of chandelier earrings and the matching I Dream in Flowers scarf as a shawl… so beautiful.

The artisan, the wandering spirit. Women who roam through museums and gardens and untamed places, finding beauty wherever they look. Women who are works of art.

More Inspo

Jan Bruegel was a highly influential Flemish artist, perhaps best known for his lavish, colourful, and highly detailed floral paintings. Many of his still-life floral arrangements are combinations of common flowers and very rare ones, and often are composed of flowers that bloom during different seasons. He regularly travelled outside of his home in Antwerp so he could find and sketch unusual flowers for his painted bouquets. The effusive colours and delightful details in his work are rich, celebratory and (we think) pure magic when printed on to our soft bamboo fabric.
