Inspired by the romance of European flower markets, we created this exquisite piece using a masterful oil painting from the early 1600’s by artist Jan Brueghel. The trim inside the hem features an ink drawing of bumblebees we found in a Victorian insect encyclopedia.

It blossoms, and the bee comes.”

The Poem

In the dark, she dreams flowers.
Larkspur and lilac, white hawthorn
blooming moonlight on the bed. In the cotton
and hay her breath shivers with perfume and pollen,
a feast for bees. Their soft velvet hum like a blanket.
She dreams flowers, white lilies
line the path to her heart like lanterns. Her chest is tangled
and tender, the prickles of regret
the sweet hope of alyssum. Her arms
are strong as branches, fists
a flourish of blossoms she will not let go.

How to Wear

One of our most versatile peices, the Luxe Tee can be worn as an everyday basic or elevated to something chic and sophisticated! The side slits make it easy to french-tuck or side-tuck in to your favourite jeans, but we also love it worn untucked with a pair of cropped leggings and sneakers. Dress it up with a peasant skirt and boots for a boho vibe, or layer it over a babydoll slip for a cute, 90’s-inspired take. Our favourite look for this one? Pair the gorgeous floral print with an easy linen trouser, and then add the I Dream in Flowers scarf to give it a rich, European feel. Pop on a cozy cardigan and boots in cooler weather, and voila — effortless, comfy, and so pretty :)

Our Muse / Inspiration

The artisan, the wandering spirit. Women who roam through museums and gardens and untamed places, finding beauty wherever they look. Women who are works of art.

More Inspo

Jan Bruegel was a highly influential Flemish artist, perhaps best known for his lavish, colourful, and highly detailed floral paintings. Many of his still-life floral arrangements are combinations of common flowers and very rare ones, and often are composed of flowers that bloom during different seasons. He regularly travelled outside of his home in Antwerp so he could find and sketch unusual flowers for his painted bouquets. The effusive colours and delightful details in his work are rich, celebratory and (we think) pure magic when printed on to our soft bamboo fabric.
