Let The Light In Bohéme Long Maxi Slip Dress w Delft Print

$150.00

Inspired by poet Leonard Cohen’s famous quote “There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in”, this design celebrates the ways our experiences shape us, and the perfect beauty of imperfection. Created using pieces of Delft tile from the 1700’s — including two Italianate landscape scenes — we chose to leave in the cracks and slight imperfections from the original ceramic in our final print. The trim comes from an 1867 British book on classical ornamentation, and an earthenware plaque from the Netherlands painted in 1780. Please note: The nature of our viscose means it’s slightly sheer, so we recommend wearing a full or half-slip with this style.
100% viscose (derived from plant fibres such as wood and bamboo).
Machine wash gentle or handwash, hang to dry.
Measurements for S/M: 136cm long, 52cm wide underarm to underarm. L/XL: 142cm long, 57cm wide underarm to underarm.

The Poem

The Mudlarkers by GennaRose NethercottHow we scavenge the riverbed
for coins. Keys. Apothecary bottles
with the algae-pale slick of an eel.
You reach into water, hands
gloved in silver as if passing through
a looking glass—then reemerge
with something fishlike, glinting:
a porcelain fragment, glazed white and blue.

Broken, an object stops being an object
and becomes a question:
From what tile did it crack?
What nobleman’s dinner plate?
What courtesan’s tea set?
And how did it escape? Whole,
this had a purpose, once.
Shattered, it has a thousand.

You smear silt away with a shirt hem. Beneath,
a painted tree creaks and a city crumbles.
A couple whispers over a rosemary patch,
like you and I have done.
They could be saying anything at all.

Our Muse / Inspiration

The open-hearted, the unbreakable. Women who transform life’s fractures into spaces for light and love, who find beauty in their own mended pieces. Women who let the light in.

More Inspo

One of our favourite things about this beautiful print is that it’s quietly rebellious — a celebration of cracks, flaws, and all the stories they tell. Instead of digitally "fixing" the broken bits of the 1700’s Delft tiles we used, we kept them — because isn’t that where the magic is?
Delftware, with its iconic blue-and-white motifs, was the European answer to the craze for Chinese porcelain in the 17th and 18th centuries — and over time, those hand-painted tiles developed their own unique charm, often featuring little scenes from everyday life. If you look closely, you’ll see hairline fractures running through the sweeping landscapes, like rivers of light. And that beautiful ginger jar on the sleeve? She’s a time traveler, borrowed from an 18th-century French watercolour. Even the trim is a patchwork of historical treasures, stitched together from classical patterns and Dutch ceramics. All of these elements come together to illustrate that beauty doesn't come from perfection — it comes from the stories we carry, and the moments that have shaped us.
